Equity and Inclusive Education

The Ontario Equity and Inclusive Education Strategy launched in April 2009 helps educators across the province better identify and remove discriminatory biases and systemic barriers to student achievement. The strategy supports the government's key education priorities of high student achievement, reduced gaps in student achievement and increased accountability and public confidence in Ontario's publicly funded schools.

Our Catholic schools have always been guided by a deep and abiding sense of the worth and dignity of every individual.

“The human person is the clearest reflection of God's presence in the world; all of the Church's work in pursuit of both justice and peace is designed to protect and promote the dignity of every person. For each person not only reflects God, but is the expression of God's creative work and the meaning of Christ's redemptive ministry.”, taken from The Challenge of Peace.

Research shows that when students feel welcomed and accepted in their school, they are more likely to succeed academically. In order to achieve equity and inclusive education in Ontario schools, the following three goals, which intersect many initiatives in schools needs to be visible:
• shared and committed leadership;
• equity and inclusive education policies; and
• accountability and transparency.
