Paul Lacalamita

Paul Lacalamita has been a member of CPCO since his appointment as a secondary school vice-principal in 1997. He was the district representative for Waterloo in 1998 when principals and vice-principals were first removed from OECTA. He is a secondary school principal seconded from St. David Catholic Secondary School in Waterloo. He has also served as a principal in the elementary panel.

Paul has been an active member of CPCO through his involvement with the constitution and steering committees, acting both as committee member and chair. Paul served as a secondary councillor on the executive council in 2007-08 and most recently as president-elect.

He represented CPCO at the Institute for Catholic Education’s panel discussion regarding EQAO testing, at the Ontario College of Teachers’ panel discussion on Teacher Mentorship/Induction programs, on the panel discussion regarding virtues education as presented by Bishop Durocher and on the Ministry’s team for principal/vice-principal appraisals. As president-elect, Paul served as the executive liaison to the political action and professional services committees.

In his role as president, Paul looks forward to meeting and working with the dedicated professionals leading Ontario’s Catholic schools. He is enthusiastic about the potential that this year’s executive council will bring to the dynamics of Catholic education in Ontario. Paul is very thankful for the guidance, support and encouragement of his colleagues in CPCO.

Joan Duckitt

Joan Duckitt served as president of the Catholic Principals’ Council of Ontario during the 2008-09 school-year. Joan has served on the executive council of CPCO since 2004 and has acted as executive liaison to the professional development, issues in Catholic education and communications committees. She represented the organization on the When Faith Meets Pedagogy planning committee and served on the board of directors of the Catholic Curriculum Corporation. As president, Joan was best known for her relentless advocacy to invoke ministry action on the realization of the strategies surrounding the role of the principal as articulated in the Ministry’s 2005 Excellence For All document and the 2008 Ontario Leadership Strategy, both of which include recommendations to improve terms and conditions of employment for principals and vice-principals.

Joan began her career as an administrator in the Huron-Perth CDSB and is currently a principal in the London District Catholic School Board at St. David School in Dorchester. She has eagerly returned to work in her school community and looks forward to serving the Catholic principals and vice-principals of Ontario as past-president of CPCO.

Clara Pitoscia

Clara Pitoscia has been with the Dufferin-Peel Catholic DSB for the past 26 years serving in both the elementary and secondary panels. She has been an administrator for 13 years, four years as a vice-principal and nine years as a secondary school principal. Clara is the founding principal of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Secondary School in Mississauga. She has served as a member of the executive council for the Association of Secondary School Principals and Vice-principals and was its president in 2004. Clara has also been a member of the association’s employment services working group since 1998 and has been the lead negotiator in the last two rounds of contracts. In 2002 she was the co-chair of the CPCO conference, Walking with Christ, hosted by the Dufferin-Peel principals and vice-principals.

Clara has gained a wealth of experience and knowledge from the many committees on which she has served as a representative of CPCO. Some of the committees include: Signs of the Times provincial focus group on Catholic education; CPCO principals’ focus group for the Provincial Discussion Tables; ad hoc advisory committee for the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Branch; writing team for Think Literacy Success: The Report of the Expert Panel on Students At-Risk in Ontario; At-Risk Working Group and Report, 2002-03; and CPCO secondary councillor, 1999-2001. Clara was honoured by her colleagues at the 2009 CPCO gala dinner by being named as Dufferin-Peel’s secondary school recipient of the 2009 CPCO Principal of the Year Award.

Joe Czaczkowski

Joe Czaczkowski has been an administrator with the Thunder Bay Catholic DSB for the past 14 years. He is presently the principal of St. Margaret School. This is his third year on the CPCO executive council. Joe served as chair of the member security committee for three years and as president of his local association for three years.

Joe has always been very fortunate to have his family’s encouragement and support of his career aspirations. He is also very appreciative of the encouragement and support he has received from his colleagues in Thunder Bay and in CPCO.

Jim Minello

Jim Minello has just completed his thirtieth year in education, 20 of those in the classroom as a teacher of English, Catholic studies and head of guidance. As an administrator Jim was a vice-principal in two secondary schools. His first principal’s appointment was at Holy Names High School in Windsor where he served for four and a half years. He is presently the principal of St. Anne High School in Tecumseh. In 2006 Jim joined the CPCO executive council as a secondary councillor. He has served as executive liaison to several committees including the member security and professional services committees.

Carole Allen

Carole Allen has served her colleagues on the CPCO executive council for the past three years. She has been a principal with the Simcoe Muskoka CDSB for the past ten years and is currently assigned to St. Nicholas School in Barrie. At the local level Carole has been actively involved with her principals/vice-principals’ association. She was recently honoured by her colleagues in Simcoe Muskoka with the Past-president’s Award, recognizing her contributions to their local executive. At the provincial level, Carole served on the executive council as elementary councillor for one year and as treasurer for the past two years.

Bill Beaucage

For the past nine years Bill Beaucage has been a principal with the Superior North Catholic DSB. He has worked in three elementary school communities. Presently, Bill is the principal of St. Edward Catholic School in Nipigon.

Bill has garnered a great deal of experience through his work on committees, working groups and board teams. Past experiences include development and delivery of workshops on assessment and evaluation, and literacy and numeracy initiatives. An active member in his local principals’ association, Bill has been president and district representative, professional development representative and a member of the local association’s terms and conditions team. His experience with CPCO has included: chair of the constitution committee; presenter, facilitator and moderator of a PQP web conference; and a member of the Catholic School Administrator’s Toolkit team.

David Giroux

David Giroux has been a principal with the Renfrew County Catholic DSB since December 1999. David has served as an elementary principal in three schools within the board. His newest posting is the community of St. Casimir’s Catholic School in Round Lake. Since January 2008, he has also been one of two school effectiveness system principals in his board. David works at his school part-time and also works with ten other elementary schools on the School Effectiveness Framework, district reviews and enhancing overall literacy and numeracy achievement.

David has served on his local association executive on several occasions and was recently president for two years. He has served on terms and conditions and numerous other board committees. This is David’s second year in the role of elementary councillor on the CPCO executive. Serving on the executive council has been one of the greatest joys of David’s 18-year career in Catholic education. He hopes to continue to use his gifts and talents to serve the members of CPCO and to ensure the strength and vitality of Catholic education for many years to come.

Glenn Miller

Glenn completed a bachelor of arts and a bachelor of education degree at St. Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He also holds a master of education degree from the University of Toronto and the Ontario supervisory officer’s certificate. Glenn has been an educator with the Bruce-Grey Catholic DSB for 18 years. He has been a principal since 2001. He is principal of St. Mary’s High School in Owen Sound where he serves as mentor and coach to others.

Since joining the Catholic Principals’ Council of Ontario in 2001, Glenn has been a very active member. He served as CPCO representative on the Ontario College of Teachers’ team that reviewed the recommendations for pre-service education programs. He has also been a member of the member security committee since 2004 and served as chair in 2008-09. Working collaboratively with his colleagues, he has successfully led several employment service seminars. This is Glenn’s first year serving on the executive council.

Glenn is a strong advocate for Catholic education and believes in the potential of every child. He works closely with his colleagues in Bruce-Grey to promote Catholic education in his board and around the province.

John Ulicny

John Ulicny is employed by the Windsor-Essex Catholic DSB and is in his seventh year of secondary school administration. In September, John began his first principalship at Cardinal Carter Catholic Secondary School in Leamington. This is John’s second year as secondary councillor on the provincial executive. He has been actively involved in CPCO serving on the member security committee, chairing the Western Region Secondary Administrators’ meetings and working on his local association executive, and terms and conditions committee. John has enjoyed meeting and learning from many CPCO members at the local and provincial level. He looks forward to his role on the executive council and to serving the membership at large.

Mike Bethune

Mike Bethune has been a principal with the Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board for the past twelve years. He has served in four of the board’s elementary schools and is currently principal of their largest elementary school, Notre Dame in Owen Sound.

Being a Catholic principal is for Mike a vocation. He believes we are called to lead others in their work and spiritual growth. He feels that we have both the responsibility and the moral duty to ensure that all our actions are rooted in our Catholic faith. He approaches his principalship with this belief in mind as well as the work he does on behalf of CPCO.

Mike brings a wealth of experience to this position. He has been involved in numerous board leadership teams including school effectiveness, character education and EQAO. For the past nine years he has been the co-president of his local principal/vice-principal association, their CDR, AGM delegate, professional development coordinator and the lead negotiator. As well Mike has served as the chair of the CPCO communications and professional services standing committees.

Mike looks forward to continuing his advocacy for all Catholic principals and vice-principals across the province, in his role as elementary councillor.
