PRESIDENT'S JOURNAL

Good News for All

This coming Sunday marks the beginning of Catholic Education Week and the theme for the week is “Good News for All”. With the realities of war, poverty and injustice it is often very challenging to find good news in today’s world. Members tell me that their school communities are already feeling the impact of the economic crisis. Relatives, friends and parents are losing jobs, placing families and students in hardship.

Those who work in publicly-funded Catholic schools are called to be messengers of peace who bring forth the good news in our schools and communities. We must bring light to the darkness. We are obliged to assist the families in our schools, nurturing their spirit and caring for their immediate needs. Without attending to these basic needs, learning will be compromised. At the same time, our schools must celebrate the good news and highlight the significant contributions our Catholic schools make to our communities and the province.

During this education week I pray that your school community will be successful in sharing its “good news” and unique and distinctive contributions to Catholic education.
