How I Spent My “Vacation” at CPCO

Recently I attended a transition meeting at St. David School in Dorchester to prepare for my return to the London District Catholic School Board in September. Students and staff greeted me warmly however I was especially amused by the questions of a grade one student when she earnestly asked how my vacation had been and what I had done on my vacation.  Clearly my departure from the school and secondment to CPCO for a year was not understood by all.
In answer to the primary student’s question, this is how I spent my “vacation” at CPCO:

• Collaborated on 3 submissions to the Ministry of Education;
• Authored 4 articles for CPCO’s Principal Connections magazine;
• Made 12 presentations to Principal’s Qualification Program (PQP) Part 2 candidates;
• Attended 18 conferences/workshops/training sessions;
• Partook in 24 gala dinners, banquets, and receptions;
• Visited 29 principal/vice-principal associations;
• Convened 33 teleconferences with district representatives;
• Wrote 40 President’s Journal entries for publication in CPCO’s weekly electronic magazine. This is the last such article!
• Attended 52 meetings with executive council, CPCO staff, CPCO standing committees and council of district representatives;
• Attended 61 meetings with Ministry personnel, and business and Catholic partners; and
• Traveled approximately 20 000 km throughout the province.

And, oh yes… my “vacation” was most enjoyable. Thank you for allowing me the privilege to serve you as president of CPCO this year. It has been a remarkable and rewarding learning experience. I wish all of you a long, relaxing and safe summer. May God bless you as you continue the good and holy work you do in our Catholic schools.
