PRESIDENT'S JOURNAL

Are you planning to attend the CPCO Conference and Annual General Meeting from April 30th to May 2nd?

Planning for this year’s conference in Toronto is well underway by both the CPCO staff and the Dufferin-Peel planning committee. We look forward to the insightful commentary from our keynote speakers and workshop presenters. The Thursday evening keynote speaker is well-known humanitarian, Stephen Lewis. There has been a slight change to the Friday line-up; Minister of Education, Kathleen Wynne will not address the members as previously planned. Instead, Steve Paikin, host of TVO’s The Agenda with Steve Paikin will be the keynote speaker on Friday morning. Celebrating through inspiring liturgies, networking and engaging in a variety of professional learning workshops as well as time to socialize have all been planned by the conference committee members. Don’t miss out. Register today!

CPCO elections will take place on Saturday, May 2nd at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). I encourage all members to consider running for provincial office. You may wonder what being on the Executive Council involves. Meetings are held monthly in Toronto; usually 9 meetings a year in total. Most meetings run all day Friday and half-day on Saturday, though two meetings have an additional Thursday attached. One meeting, usually two days in length is held in the summer, and some teleconference sessions may be called throughout the year. Each Executive Member serves as liaison to a standing committee. Committees usually meet once in Toronto and then by teleconference.

My five years on the Executive Council have been rewarding both personally and professionally. I have never regretted my decision to serve, knowing full-well that there were some sacrifices to be made. My experiences on the Executive have allowed me a provincial perspective on issues that have certainly impacted my role as principal and Catholic leader. Please consider serving your colleagues in this capacity.
