Interim Executive Director Appointed by Executive Council

The Executive Council has appointed Dan Tighe, as the Interim Executive Director, effective Oct. 1st. Dan comes with a myriad of experiences, not the least of which being the most recent past-president of our organization. Dan has served in both the elementary and secondary panels and has extensive knowledge about terms and conditions of employment and group benefits. Upon his arrival, Dan will spend almost three weeks of intense transition with Lou Rocha before Lou leaves CPCO. We congratulate Dan on his appointment. The Executive Council wishes to thank Paul Wubben, Director of Education for the St. Clair CDSB and the Board of Trustees for allowing Dan another secondment to CPCO.

The Succession Plan and hiring process for a Deputy Executive Director for September 2009 has proceeded as scheduled. Interviews are scheduled in October and the Executive Council hopes to name a designate shortly thereafter. Rest assured that the Executive Council and CPCO staff are committed to maintaining and enhancing the service we provide to you our members.

Diocesan Celebration

Last Thursday evening I had the privilege of attending the First Annual Diocesan Celebration of Catholic Education for the Diocese of Hamilton. The event was hosted by the Waterloo Catholic District School Board and culminated in a Eucharistic celebration presided over by Bishop Anthony Tonnos. St. Mary’s Church was packed with members from the education communities of Waterloo, Brant Haldimand Norfolk, Halton, Wellington, Hamilton-Wentworth, and Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Boards as well as Conseil Scolaire de District Catholique Centre-Sud. It was a wonderful faith-filled way to begin the new school year as a Catholic community. I could not help but reflect on how amazing this would be for Catholic education if the idea were replicated in all dioceses across Ontario. Congratulations to the respective Directors of Education and their staffs for organizing this collaborative event.
