It has been a very busy week. We have met with our colleagues in OPC and ADFO to discuss the implications of Ontario’s Public Sector Compensation Restraint Act and how it will impact on principals and vice-principals in Ontario’s publicly-funded education system. We have spoken to our partners about this issue and we have written to the Premier and the Minister of Education, making them aware of our concerns. Our position is very clear.
Last week, I provided you with board salary comparisons to illustrate what a salary freeze for school administrators could mean should there be no exemption for school administrators. We have spoken to ministry staff and raised our concerns not only about the salary implication but also about the whole notion of succession planning. How do we continue to instill in our teachers the noble calling of this vocation when the reality exists that they could be receiving less salary for the added responsibilities of school administration? Until this issue comes to some conclusion it is important that as school administrators we continue to demonstrate the importance of the work that we do with the students and staff in our care.
The CPCO conference and annual general meeting will soon be upon us. My report, as well as those of the executive director, treasurer and professional staff will be made available on the CPCO website by the end of this week. Take some time to visit the AGM website to read about the activities your association has engaged in on your behalf.
The Windsor principals and vice-principals have worked diligently to provide their colleagues from around the province with a stellar conference. They are ready to roll out the welcome mat. Our Windsor colleagues are letting their light shine through their liturgies, professional learning opportunities and hospitality. We look forward to joining them at one of Windsor’s newest venues, the Caesars Windsor Hotel. If you haven’t registered, it is not too late. We look forward to meeting you there.
