Good news before the holidays!
On Monday, December 14, 2009, a meeting was held with the Ministry of Education and association representatives from trustees, directors, superintendents, and principals’ groups. As you are aware, CPCO has been advocating on your behalf for a consistent and transparent approach to negotiating terms and conditions for all principals and vice-principals for a number of years.
CPCO is pleased to report that a new Provincial Policy Memorandum (PPM) on terms and conditions of employment for principals and vice-principals will be forthcoming early in the new year. The PPM establishes standards of practice for all publicly-funded school boards. These standards of practice will outline a process for negotiations and identify provisions of employment which must be included in all terms and conditions of employment for Ontario’s principals and vice-principals. More details regarding the PPM will be forthcoming in the new year.
We would like to thank the Ministry of Education for their leadership in the delivery of this PPM and all those who participated at the discussion table, especially our Catholic partners for their support in embracing a fair and equitable process that recognizes the complex role of principals and vice-principals in Ontario today.
The executive council of CPCO will continue to work with the Member Security Committee to support members with the implementation of this PPM.
On behalf of the executive council and the staff at CPCO we wish you a blessed and peace filled Christmas and a Happy New Year!
