The Catholic Principals’ Council of Ontario is pleased to announce that the recipient of CPCO’s 2010 Distinguished Service Award is Julia Pellerin, principal of St. Christopher Catholic School, Oshawa, in the Durham Catholic District School Board. Julia is a very active member, not only in her own board but also with the Catholic Principals’ Council of Ontario.
John Stunt, executive director of the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association has been named the recipient of the Father John Redmond Award for 2010. This award is presented to an individual whose contribution to Catholic education has had a significant impact provincially.
We look forward to honouring these individuals at the 2010 Gala Dinner. It will be held at the CPCO conference on April 23, 2010 at the Caesars Windsor Hotel.
The members of the Council of District Representatives (CDRs) are appointed/elected to the position by the local principal/vice-principal associations. These representatives attend meetings on your behalf with the executive council in Toronto in November and February. They receive information and reports on CPCO business, give input on issues of importance to school administrators and to express concerns raised in their local associations. CDRs are in turn responsible to report pertinent information back to their local associations.
The next CDR meeting is February 19 - 20, 2010. The agenda for the meeting is posted in this week’s e-zine and on the CPCO website. You are encouraged to pass on any of your concerns or questions to your CDR, and request information from your CDR following the meeting.
The second Principal Congress will be held in Toronto on February 10, 2010. The Congress will be a tri-level leadership forum consisting primarily of principals and some supervisory officers and directors. Boards and principals’ associations have nominated participants. The day will revolve around in-depth, small group discussions aimed at generating advice about successful leadership practices that close the gap in student achievement.
CPCO professional staff have been highly involved in the planning of the day and we look forward to engaging principals from around the province in strategic thinking and rich dialogue about effective leadership practices.
